Shaving cream?

After seeing this essay about shaving make the rounds for the 3rd or 4th time, I decided that I should actually try it.  So, this morning I tried shaving with nothing more than hot water and a fresh blade.  Much to my amazement, it seems to have worked just fine.  Who knew?  I’ll see what happens if I attempt that method several times in a row.  I fully expect my skin to get more irritated than normal.

Have you ever heard what happens when a cat jumps onto a running record player?

I just did. It’s pretty awesome.

I love San Francisco

This city is great. (I say that as though I actually live in the city. I wish.) Lombard Street is always cool, but the annual Big Wheel Race down said street takes it way, way over the top. JWZ got some great photos. So did a bajillion people on flickr. I think this photo might represent the very essence of San Francisco for me. Or maybe this one. Love it.

I’ll totally miss this place if I have to leave.

It’s true what they say about Ferrari owners…

OK so this one is slightly involved, but it’s totally worth it. Take a look at this eBay auction. It’s a dude selling a Ferrari. Nothing all that unusal, right? Next click on the seller’s feedback link. (It’s the “66″ next to the seller’s name). Still nothing that exciting there - just a normal list of feedback. Excellent buyer, A+++, whatever. Now, click on the item number of the last thing the guy bought - from “aftenterprises”. In case this changes, that would be item 180056785182.

Now that is funny. I guess it’s true what they say about Ferrari owners.

just a thought

It occurs to me that perhaps drinking several glasses of wine just before putting the dishes away in the kitchen is perhaps not the wisest thing I’ve ever done. At least I didn’t break anything.

Just a thought.

Fun with Videoconferencing

I’ve been spending a lot of time on phone and video calls to Australia lately, for various reasons. The project I’ve been spending most of my time on lately is based there (which I’m totally hoping will score me a trip to Sydney), and I keep finding myself doing phone interviews of aussies.

Anyway, the audio wasn’t working very well this afternoon on the Sydney side of the VC meeting, and the microphones are in the ceiling (!?!) in that room, so one of my colleagues decided to get closer to them. Here he is dancing on the table so we can hear him.

Life In The Goog

Google manhole coverSo I was wandering around a few days ago and I noticed that we have our very own manhole cover now. Pretty sweet if you ask me. It was actually sunny today for the first time since approximately January, so I took my camera along and snapped a picture. What’s great is that someone actually had to go to the trouble of making a die and casting this thing out of actual solid metal. There’s some sort of philosophical significance to this, but I’m really not sure what it is.

scooters! Also, I think I saw all of my group’s scooters in the same place for the first time in … oh, forever. There’s actually one missing - the one with the crazy broken throttle. That one is the best to ride, because it has two speed settings: off and EXTREMELY FAST. You control it by squeezing two bare wires together. When the wires touch, you accelerate as fast as the scooter can go. It’s awesome. Awesomely dangerous, that is.

I love other languages. From the flickr description:

A lot of elevator call buttons in Denmark display this curious message; it actually indicates that the lift is “in motion”.

Watch Out for Angry Wet CatWooo … this collection of images made me laugh out loud. Favorites: No Head, Do Not Set Yourself on Fire (which can only be from Burning Man), Flatulence Emergency. I’m sure everybody else on the planet has seen this already, but it’s all new to me, and I love it.

Pig Launcher

Pig Launcher
This right here is the coolest thing I’ve seen all week.
It’s a catapult.  It launches pigs, enabling you to smite your enemies with flying swines at distances of up to 15 feet. Way cool.

Say! Do you want to go see a movie? Posts ©2006 Ben staffin
