Happy new year

Hey wow, it’s 2010 now.  Happy new year.

I’m probably not going to post here a whole lot anymore.  It just never quite worked right as a way for me to communicate.  I am still very active online, though.

Here is where I’ve gone:

  • twitter - my activity stream. Twitter has largely replaced this blog.
  • flickr - the photos I figure people might actually care to see
  • picasaweb - more photos, but less polished than the ones I post on flickr.

I’ve started keeping a blog at work, but it’s not on the public internet so I can’t link to that.  It seems like topical blogging (my technical projects at work, jenny’s recipe/cooking blog) works much better than the vague free-writing type of blog that I thought this was going to be.  I’ve never felt particularly inclined write publicly about emotional subjects, and that seems to be what the personal blog format is best for, so I haven’t had a whole lot to say here.

I may still post technical stuff from time to time.  We’ll see what happens.

Finally fixed the dumb SSL problem.

I finally got around to fixing the problem that caused some parts of this blog to load using https and others via http. You shouldn’t get any more silly browser warnings when loading it up anymore.

What’s benley reading?

I’ve taken to using Google Reader to keep up with a few zillion RSS feeds lately. (because it’s useful, not because I’m a Google shill. Really. Yes, I know I’m a Google shill.) Anyway, if you haven’t tried using an rss aggregator of some sort or another, I highly recommend it. It makes wasting time *so* much more efficient.

Anyway, one of the neat features that google’s reader has (and I’m pretty sure plenty of other news aggregators have it too) is the ability to share your own feeds with articles you think others might find interesting, both as a webpage and as an ATOM feed (which is like RSS, only spelled differently. If you’re not a supernerd, you couldn’t care less what the difference is). I’ve been “starring” articles all along, mostly as I come across something while browsing on my cellphone that I’ll want to look at later on a real computer, so I figured I might as well share my starred articles in case anybody wants to see what I think is awesome.

So, if you want something to bookmark to see what’s amusing me, here’s my starred items feed. If you’ve joined the 21st century and use an aggregator, here’s the ATOM feed of my starred items.

Update: someone smart suggested that I should put up some of these convenient and magical buttons:Add to Google
